Jessie Coffield, a student-athlete at Boston College, is one of the best college lacrosse players in the country. In 2011, she became the NCAA National Champion. She also won the Chevrolet Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week award.
Jessie Coffield began her love of sports at a young age. As a youngster, she played PeeWee soccer and was an exceptional goal scorer. She later joined the boys’ Little League team after PeeWee soccer ended. She was the leadoff hitter for her team and was able to lean into pitches to get hits.
In addition to playing college lacrosse, Jessie Coffield has become an accomplished reporter and co-host of a popular sports podcast. She also works as a sideline reporter for the New England Revolution soccer team. This work led to her being featured on the team’s website and work on the Lax Sports Network.
Matt Brandau
When you look at the rankings of college lacrosse players, you might not expect to find a senior like Brandau. He has been one of the most productive players for the Yale Bulldogs. Matt Brandau is the second leading scorer in the country. He has two goals in two games against the Big Red.
Brandau had a breakout year this past season, playing in all 16 games and finishing second on the team with 44 points and 29 goals. His goal total was the highest of any midfielder on the team. He also scored a career-high 12 hat tricks. His skills earned him the 29th overall pick by PLL’s Archers LC in the 2022 College Entry Draft. He was also named as the NEILA New England Co-Player of the Year and a First Team All-New England selection.
Penn’s lacrosse team has relied on familiar faces. Despite two years away from the game due to the Ivy League’s cancellation of the team’s season, Josh Handley has been an integral part of the team’s success. The Oregon native is one of five finalists for the Tewaaraton Award. He currently leads Penn in points with 66 and ranks second on the team with 33 goals.
Dominic Pietramala
Dominic Pietramala is one of the best college lacrosse players in the country. He’s a 6’4″ attackman who will be a senior next season. His father, John, helped him navigate the recruiting process. He’s also the winningest coach in the history of Johns Hopkins. Pietramala’s sons, Nick and James, are in the process of choosing colleges.
Pietramala, a senior last season, improved his all-around skills and was a better passer. He grew up with the game and has adapted to the physical nature of college lacrosse. He grew up watching his father play and absorbing every moment. His dad never put any additional pressure on him and encouraged him in every athletic endeavor he chose.
Truit Sunderland
Truit Sunderland is one of the best college lacrosse players in the country. His offensive skills are unmatched by anyone in his class. As a freshman, he had 35 goals and 22 assists for Calvert Hall. He is also smart and tough, and he can play any position on the field. As a leader, Sunderland inspires his teammates to become better.
Sunderland is a top recruit for UVA. The Cavaliers have an incoming class of top-ranked prospects with four five-star recruits and one three-star prospect. Four of the five players are from Virginia, including Sunderland. In addition to the top five players, Virginia has added another top recruit in Thomas McConvey, a grad transfer.
Joey Spallina
The Mount Sinai attackman is one of the best players in the country. He has set the Long Island career points record and is a three-time All-American. He is heading to Syracuse to wear the famed No. 22 jersey, and he’ll have to deal with increased scrutiny. However, his play has already proven that he can handle the pressure.
Spallina’s father coached the Lizards of the MLL, and his son studied their players and stars. While still in high school, he had lofty goals for himself. He wanted to become the all-time leading scorer in New York State. He even joined a team that had national-ranked opponents.
